You deserve to be happy. You deserve to be whole. These days, it can be tough to find refuge and healing with so few outlets and places to turn to. I created my own refuge at home. As a result, there’s honestly no place on earth like home for me. 🙂 I’m sharing my tips with you!
1. Use Artwork As Affirmation.
Since the pandemic began, I’ve not been able to grab spontaneous drinks with my girlfriends like I usually do or go to day parties filled with melanin and vibrancy. Those type of environments were always affirming for me. I could look around and see myself. I could feel myself in the beauty of others.
I’ve been intentional about adding that same representation of color, culture and heritage into my own home. Now, dope vibes greet me every single day!
2. Join a Wine Club!
Going wine tasting in the Sonoma County and Napa Valley was one of my favorite hobbies! The weather was always perfect for it. Being in California period put me at arms length to so many great wines to try.
This past summer, I joined a wine club. Each month, my wine club app presents me with curated recommendations based on my preferences and ratings of bottles that I’d previously ordered. I’m extremely excited each time I open a new shipment!
3. Make Your Home Dance With Texture.
I love to travel and gawk at the beautiful patterns that are specific to various cultures around the world.
Rather than going for the simplistically chic style that is typical for me, I’ve outfitted my home in many of the patterns that remind me of the various cultures that I love most. Having daily reminders of how diverse the world is has helped to offset some of the monotony of sheltering in place.
4. Buy a record player + vinyls
No matter how many times I turn my record player on, the act always feels grand. There’s something about the crackle of the audio quality and the beautiful rotation of the record that makes the music even sweeter.
I listen to music all the time. Most days, I never even turn on my television. Investing in the way that I experience music while at home has been worthwhile.
5. Prioritize Comfort.
I prioritized comfort with my bedding, mattress, pillows, throw blankets and couch. I’ve been spending A LOT of time at home. That won’t change in the foreseeable future, so I desired to make my home feel like a resort would.
Each night that I sink down on my mattress, I let out a satisfying moan. As I stated at the onset of this post, #wedeserve!
